Beverly Hills Diet:
This diet claims that the eating one type of food with another (a protein with a carbohydrate)
destroys digestive enzymes and causes weight gain and poor digestion. Eating foods separately
prevents this and causes weight loss according to this diet.
It is a 35-day diet plan. It recommends eating fruit by itself and never eating protein with
carbohydrates in order for food to be properly digested and not stored as body fat.
For the first 10 days, only fruit is permitted. On day 11 starchy carbohydrates and butter are
added. Fat should be eaten with carbohydrates, but not protein, because combining a protein with
a carbohydrate can destroy the enzymes which slow down the process causing an increase in
body fat. Then on day 19 protein can be added. Fatty treats are also permitted.
This is a short term "quick fix" that is unbalanced. Following this diet long term is not recommended
and does emphasize keeping the weight off.
Disadvantages:
o Boring and restrictive food plan may help people to eat less in the beginning.
o Rapid weight loss is accomplished by eating a lot of fruit, which may cause diarrhea and fluid
loss.
o Not based upon scientific evidence
o Not a diet for vegetarians
o Dangerous- Low in several vitamins and minerals
o Encourages unsafe diet practices and does not promote fat loss.
