| Pyruvate |
| Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) General Facts
|
| Pyruvate is a substance that naturally occurs in the body. Pyruvate is the foundation of the Krebs Cycle, which is how the body burns sugar and starch. Pyruvate makes the Krebs Cycle run faster. And, the faster the Krebs Cycle turns, the more energy a person has, and the more calories they burn. Thus, Pyruvate plays a crucial role in this conversion of food to energy. Calcium Pyruvate is pyruvic acid stabilized with calcium to create the Pyruvate salt |
| Pyruvate can be found in foods such as: • Fruits and vegetables • Red apples • Dark beers • Red wines and • some cheeses |
| More scientific..... Pyruvate is a three-carbon compound that serves as the gateway compound between the glycolysis pathway and the Krebs cycle. During high-intensity anaerobic exercise, the pyruvate that is formed from the breakdown of sugars and amino acids is converted into lactate by lactate dehydrogenase. Under aerobic conditions, the pyruvate is shuttled into the mitochondria, where it is converted in acetyl coenzyme A by the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. Several studies have indicated that calcium and/or sodium pyruvate supplementation enhances weight and fat loss and improves exercise capacity primarily in overweight individuals Results of a study indicate that pyruvate supplementation during training does not significantly affect body composition or exercise performance and may negatively affect some blood lipid levels. |
